Prior to working with All Heart, we often faced challenges with unwanted furniture, fittings, and equipment (FF&E). Despite our efforts to recycle and resell, a significant amount still ended up in landfill. Our approach was primarily commercial rather than community-focused. The ingenious model created by All Heart has fundamentally shifted this dynamic. Not only does it prove to be more cost-effective than local landfill, but it reintroduces FF&E back into the community. More importantly, it simultaneously supports the community partners that we work with. Inspired by All Heart's mission, we at Relocate now aim to send zero FF&E to landfill. It's a paradigm shift that aligns with our commitment to a more sustainable and community-centric future.

In addition to recycling soft plastics and exploring sustainable options in our business and personal lives, there are other steps we can take to further our sustainability efforts. for example, upcycling beds and e-waste recycling are two options that can make a positive impact on the environment. This process helps to divert materials from waste to reuse, giving them a second life. Similarly, e-waste recycling involves responsibly disposing of electronic devices and components to prevent harmful materials from entering the environment. By exploring these options, we can take concrete steps toward sustainability and contribute to a more sustainable future. With the support of organisations like All Heart NZ, we can make a positive impact on the environment and inspire others to do the same.

“WMS provides a waste audit service to the industry. This service involves our team sorting through a customer’s waste, separating the materials into different categories, weighing, photographing and building comprehensive reports outlining what the customer is throwing away and providing guidance on ways to change their behaviours and overall resource management to obtain more sustainable outcomes. Our WMS experts lead these programmes, but we reached out to our partners at All Heart NZ to assist us with organising sorting staff for our projects. To date, we have completed over 2,000 hours of short-term employment through our audit service, with this number growing each month. Without All Heart NZ’s support and without the amazing community partners we have worked with over the past two years, our waste audit service would not have been possible.”

It was great to partner with Waste Management and All Heart NZ to conduct our annual waste audits. These audits are essential to better understanding waste from our stores and how we can make changes across our business to reduce the amount of waste we create overall. It's a huge undertaking, auditing almost 7 tonnes of waste from 22 sites across the motu, and we are so lucky to have the continuity of the All Heart NZ team supporting us year on year.
